Our Story

Hi, I'm Chuck Swofford, Mert and Gaston Swofford's oldest boy. I'm married to Lisa and we have purchased the old Denton Valley Store! We are pleased as punch to be back in Callahan County after living most of our married life in Austin, Texas. We have two children, Alec and Jessica who are both in college now so we decided it was time for a change and wanted to get back home.
Lisa and I have been doing most of the work on the restaurant ourselves -- but then we have a great big family that has also pitched in at different times and helped us along the way. Family wood artisans have worked to build some outstanding tables that will sport surprises and spark many a conversation. I think you will find that we have worked to preserve as much of the original wood, character, and layout of the store as possible while at the same time converting it into a full-service, top shelf restaurant. We have added some great features -- 3 restrooms, an industrial kitchen, and a rock garden, just to name a few.
Our kitchen will provide meals that touch your soul and remind you of days gone by when you experience our foods. We will start small with simple meals like fried catfish, chicken fried steak or steak fingers and great hamburgers. Comfort food has been the hallmark of making folks feel welcome for over a hundred and 50 years in this State an. That is just a small taste of what Denton Valley's Backyard will be offering -- it will be the very best place to be with family, friends, and a great crowd that you will want to meet.
